What was it like staying at the Huemules?
Man, I do not know where to start with this one. What made this place so special were definitely the special people. Santiago, the owner, and his brother turned their 6,000k acre family cattle farm into a peaceful get away. Every single person working there were such special individuals. My favorite day was the all day excursion hike. I got to hangout with Santiago and he was telling me these were the hikes he used to do growing up and that he wanted to share it with people. It’s so genuine and I will always have amazing memories from that place.
What was special about Huemules?
Well, pretty much everything about that place. It’s a hidden gem. The people, the food, and Santiago’s intention. They made a destination that is 100% sustainable with low impact on the environment. The cool thing is they even recycled wood in their furniture and hired 100% local personnel. Additionally, they built an advanced sewage treatment system that sterilizes waste cleanly and without odors. Alongside designing an energy system based on the eternal hydrological cycle of the region. All of this, to pay tribute to Patagonia and its people.
Did you love sleeping in a dome?
OMG the dome was an amazing experience to do in Argentina. The stars at night were INSANE. I have never seen anything like it. However, it got pretty cold at night. So, one of us would have to get up every 2-3 hours and put more wood onto the fire. While it was kinda’ annoying, I loved it at the same time!
